Magic is believed and not perceived. It is a condition of the collective soul, a condition which is confirmed and verified by its results. 'Belief' implies the adherence of all men to an idea, and consequently to a state of feeling, an act of will, and at the same time a phenomenon of ideation. If magic is to exist, society has to be present. As soon as magic becomes separated from religion, only individual phenomena arise.
